Wall Flip Chapter 3

ED: Yzrahc ٩(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و (squinty: yz, won’t you run out of emoticons at this rate?)

To strip the tiles from the roof means to make mischief. It comes from the saying “Three days without beatings, and they’ll climb the roof to strip the tiles.” There’s also a story about this, but eh.

Every eunuch and maid in Sweet Spring Palace groveled on the floor, dead silent and trembling. They didn’t even dare raise their heads an inch for fear of their lives.

“There’s no problem with Your Majesty. Cough cough. Just be careful for a while and don’t partake in any…strenuous activities with Her Highness.” The fifty-some years old imperial physician secretly wiped cold sweat off his brow. This was the first time in all his years seeing the emperor look so ominous. To injure His Majesty in that place… looks like this newly arrived princess wouldn’t be surviving the night.

Veins popped out on Feng Tingye’s head after hearing the physician’s advice. So this wonderful demonstration was kicking off the first leg of their marriage. If he didn’t discipline her now, this silly girl’d probably strip the tiles from the roof and climb to heaven.

Feng Tingye’s expression became gloomier as he recalled Xia Yuqing’s silently stricken expression earlier when he raised his head in pain. It reminded him of a weaning kitten he’d briefly raised as a child.

She raised her dejectedly hanging head. Tearful, guilt-ridden eyes abruptly met Feng Tingye’s, causing his heart to contract.

He’d experienced all sorts of gazes since becoming emperor: calculating eyes, insincere ones, ingratiating gazes and apprehensive looks. But he’d never seen such pure and sincere concern.

His rage was considerably dampened by those tears. She’s probably just scared. I’ve never been so impulsive before after all, Feng Tingye thought.

In reality, however…

Aaaaah! How could she have kicked Seme-sama! Thank god one couldn’t die from being kicked there. Damn it, according to the physician, she’d effectively crippled his love life for the next few days! Moreover, in the future…

Xia Yuqing was practically in tears. Seme-sama had lost his Excalibur because of her!  OH NO, she didn’t want to go down in history as the monster who’d kicked a super seme downstairs into an uber uke!

Feng Tingye would be coughing blood if he heard Xia Yuqing’s current thoughts. Sadly, he didn’t have a superpower like mind reading, so the misunderstanding was perpetuated.

“All of you can get lost now. But if today’s affair is leaked…” Feng Tingye’s eyes narrowed threateningly.

Everyone in the foyer cowered simultaneously, duly shouting, “Our lips our sealed.” Then they dispersed like rats from a sinking ship.

Xia Yuqing wanted to flee as well, but she was a beat too slow.

“Where do you think you’re going, my dear?”

Her right hand had been unwittingly caught by a certain someone. Xia Yuqing cringed at the bedridden Feng Tingye. She schooled her expression. “The night is growing deeper, and Your Majesty should rest as well. I-I will return to my own quarters.”

“The road is difficult in the dark. You should stay here instead.”

Ehh?! Xia Yuqing took a moment to process this. Is he planning to take advantage of the darkness to dispose of me and avenge his honor?

Seeing Xia Yuqing dither in place, Feng Tingye impatiently reached out and pulled her into the bed.

“Your Majesty!”

“Don’t move, or you’ll get capital punishment on the spot.”

Capital punishment on the spot?! Xia Yuqing froze immediately. Hot breath blew on her shoulder, carrying a warmth that made Xia Yuqing shiver.

“Now sleep.” A hypnotic voice said besides her. Her slim waist was trapped in his arms. Xia Yuqing turned her head, listlessly studying Feng Tingye’s countenance in the moonlight.

Free of the haughtiness and lethargy, his sleeping face appeared as innocent as a child’s. Xia Yuqing’s heart trembled as she stared at his face blankly.

Time had flown. In one day, she’d experienced more than a year of staying at home. Xia Yuqing was already exhausted in both mind and body, and it wasn’t long before she drifted off.

And as she closed her eyes, the man who’d been “sleeping” opened his eyes slowly. His benign expression was instantly replaced by malice.

Feng Tingye studied her peaceful sleeping expression under the moonlight. His fingertips trailed along her cheek until they arrived at her neck. He could easily end the life of the woman dreaming in his arms with only a little force. And it was also what he’d intended to do up until meeting her. But now…

His fingers lingered on her neck for a while longer, before ultimately returning to her waist. Feng Tingye looked at Xia Yuqing with a complicated expression. He muttered tightly, “Since you’ve caught our interest, then don’t let us down.”

Xia Yuqing was still blissfully asleep, unaware of her close call with death, and reviewing the day’s events in her dreams. Looks like transmigration isn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, right?

    1. She was supposed to be a mentally incapable idiot who would have no real worth or value to him. So he was likely planning on ‘enjoying’ her and then ending her life ‘peacefully’ in her sleep as a kind of mercy.
After all such a person would not have a good time in an Imperial Palace.

      1. I figured that was it, but it sounds so much worse when you spell it out like that. Not the nicest man, eh? Good thing he’s pretty. And powerful. (Though tbh, now I’m even more turned off than I was earlier by his r@pey advances, regardless of the time period/culture of the era. 😰)

Awesome job on the translation, btw!! Thanks for your hard work!

      2. Actually, it was much less likely he’d bother “enjoying” her, though possible. She is not the bride he was meant to be sent. This is an insult from the other nation. She was mentally deficient, apparently. This would, more likely than not, be seen as trying to weaken his Imperial line, and thus end his dynasty. Dynastic rulers require viable heirs. Sometimes, in the absence of viable heirs, the ruler himself was deposed (generally involving lots of pain, destruction and messy horrible death). Killing her before she could produce a feeble heir* would be a clear sign to the world not to mess with him.

*Many societies have, and some still do, believed that feeble-minded parents could only produce mentally deficient children. This is not accurate, but what ruler wanted to take the risk to try I out, or take someone else’s word for it?

  1. My only question regarding the reasons set forth on why he was already planning to kill her is this. It was not stated yet that he knew the bride he was supposed to get had been switched with a simple minded person. it only said the switch was made by her sister. i assume this was done secretly as in other substitute novels. Would the people in this foreign country even know the switch was made? Of course the emperor would have spies so he may have known but he might have a different reason altogether for wanting to kill her before they met. Not much at all has been revealed about the time just before the MC woke up. We don’t even know what kind of accident happened to the previous owner of the body. The emperor may have just despised the idea of this political marriage altogether which might be why the sister did not want to follow through. Perhaps she feared for her life and sent the simple minded sister in her stead who would be oblivious to danger and perhaps not missed at home.

  3. ROFL. Omfg. The Emperor is already so lenient, a. Being kicked in THAT place, if she is not given a death sentence then the fact that the Emperor decided to just let it be shows that he might be an M. Just kidding.

But seriously, if the Emperor is not interested in her and seeing she is sincere (which is rare type of person in the palace)… I fear she might already say bye-bye in the transmigated era. ^ ^
